Abstract :
The loss or depreciation factor of electric power is an important thing to consider in
every electric power system. Losses on the network will reduce potential electricity
sales and revenue by PLN, therefore the value of this loss is very important because it
will relate to the quality of the power that will be supplied to customers and opens up
potential money for PLN. The method of this research uses quantitative methods by
conducting interviews, observations and calculations using the formula for network
losses, transformer losses, technical losses, percentages of technical losses and
financial losses. The causes of technical losses in medium voltage networks are caused
by cable resistance values, cable cross-sectional areas and network lengths while
transformer losses are caused by iron core losses and copper losses which are
influenced by capacity and load. Technical losses in March 2023 for the Virgo feeder
were 51,408.1 kWh with a technical loss percentage of 6.08%, which has not yet
reached the NKO value targeted by the company. Improvements made include changing
the conductor size from 35mm2 to 150mm2, increasing the sending voltage from 20 kV
to 21 kV and carrying out transformer load management. This effort succeeded in
reducing the technical losses of the Virgo feeder by 6,842.9 kWh and a percentage of
4.97%. The financial loss from technical losses that can be saved after repairs are IDR
