Abstract :
The pipe crossover in the turbine serves to deliver the output steam from the Turbine Intermediate Pressure (IP) to the Turbine Low Pressure 1 (LP1) and Turbine Low Pressure 2 (LP2). In the crossover there are several connections and between one connection with another there is a gasket to prevent steam from coming out. Based on the manual turbine document (TM-01) the material used is asbestos. Therefore, the gasket material on the crossover is replaced with a material that does not contain asbestos. However, the new material cannot withstand temperatures above 200 oC, causing leakage. This leakage causes noise above 110 dB and if repairs are made the minimum time required is 7 days by requiring the unit to shutdown. That way if this problem is not solved it will sacrifice the safety and performance of the unit concerned. Based on the description above, after being analyzed finally re-engineering the turbine crossover sealing system by using Spiral Wound Gasket (SWG) SUS304 Type R and also changing the flange surface from flat face to flat face to flat face to groove and. The re-engineering results have been applied and simulated in Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 where until now there has been no steam leakage in the turbine crossover pipe gasket system. In Unit 3 before replacing the gasket, the Turbine Efficiency value was 48.34%, after replacing the gasket the Turbine Efficiency value increased by 48.37%.
