Abstract :
Low power factor will be very detrimental to consumers, especially industry as the largest induction motor user. For industries, low power factor conditions cannot be avoided because of varying motor loads. The ordinary induction motor is designed to operate at full load but when loaded with a low load the power factor in the supplier will decrease. This low power factor can be overcome by installing a bank capacitor in parallel with a three phase induction motor power supplier with delta connection capacitor configuration or star connection. The results of research showed that to improve the power factor to 0.85 lag from 0.52 lag, the capacitor reactive power required was 2148.33843 Var with capacitance of the capacitor is 14.985 ?F for delta connection and 44.955 ?F for star connection. After the improvement of the power factor to 0.85 lag has saved the use of apparent power by 1563,935 VA or 39.08%.
