Abstract :
In the generation of electrical energy, especially steam power plant will use 3 phase sync generator as the main generator. In a 3 phase sync generator there is an excitation system that serves to supply the excitation current into the generator field circuit. In supplying the excitation current, the supplied supply may be increased to increase the reactive power output, but may also decrease even the excitation current loss which causes the generator to be in underexcitation condition. Underexcitation conditions can cause the generator to lose sync and will absorb the reactive power of the system and will make the generator overload on its stator. If this condition is left then the generator will suffer damage to the stator or rotor, therefore the generator must be protected from the danger of lost excitation. Underexcitation conditions can be seen in the generator capability curve because the characteristics of the generator are represented by the capability curve. This skripsi discusses the excitation loss protection coordinated with the generator capability curve by changing the capability curve to the lost of excitation relay diagram characteristic illustrated in the R-X diagram, and relay setting of loss of excitation along with the relay test . From the calculation results obtained for the offset of -1,63 ? and its diameter of -30,3 ? with a delay of 0,5 seconds. The impedance value of the generator load at PLTU Labuan after conversion calculation is equal to ZL = 25,0155 + j15,3036?. From the results of the relay loss of excitation test at PLTU Labuan relay lost of excitation has been considered working according to its function.
