Abstract :
The thermal efficiency of the steam power plant is a calculation that shows the ability or the condition of the unit as a whole in generating power and fuel used. Thermal efficiency can be determined by knowing the heat rate value of a steam power plant. Heat rate is a measure of the reliability of a generating unit. Heat rate is defined as the amount of fuel energy required to generate 1 kWh of electrical energy. To know the value of heat rate input energy calculation method - energy output can be used. The data parameter to determine the heat rate value is obtained from the test report during the Performance Test heat rate at Muara Karang Unit 4 & 5 steam power plant. This research was conducted to determine the influence of the generator load changes on thermal efficiency of Muara Karang Steam Power Plant Unit 5. The calculation of thermal efficiency was carried out at several load positions at the plant to obtain different thermal efficiency values of the power plant. From the calculation obtained the highest thermal efficiency value of 32.76% while the lowest thermal efficiency of 31.67%.
