Abstract :
This experiment aims to aquire the magnetite nanoparticle by coprecipitation method
and also increasing variation of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) effect on magnetite
nanoparticle’s crystal structure. Synthesis had been done by mixing natural sand with
HCl as solvent and NaOH as a precipitant, while PEG 1000 and PEG 6000 is added
as templates. The addition of each varied from 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 with a solution of
iron salts in order to analyse its influence on the crystal structure of the sample
formed. The magnetite nanoparticles resulted in the samples were characterized using
X Ray Diffraction instrument to determine the phase formation and the size of the
crystals formed. Further it were scanned with Electron-microscope to determine the
morphology of the sample. From the characterization acknowledged that the
percentage of the volume fraction of the sample were increased. Meanwhile
magnetite nanoparticle samples have a face-centered cubic structure, and the crystal
fields are in accordance with the JCPDS (Joint Committee Powder Standart) no.19 –
629 with crystal size less than 50 nm. The results showed that the addition of PEG
can increase the percentage of the volume fraction of magnetite nanoparticles and
does not affect the crystal structure of magnetite nanoparticles.
