Abstract :
The aim of the study is to find out correlation between utilization of school
library and student’s achievement of IX grade students of SMP N 1 Eromoko and
the number of correlation. The method used in this research was descriptive
quantitative research using post ex facto method. The population of the study was
228 of IX grade students of SMP N 1 Eromoko. Sample taking used in this
research was conducted by using census, which means that all of the students take
part as respondents. The research data was collected by using technique of
questionnaire and documentation. Variable of the study was independent variable
(utilization of school library) and dependent variable (student’s achievement). The
quantitative data were analyzed through correlation analysis technique using
Pearson Product Moment formula and was processed using Microsoft Office
Excel 2003.
The research findings show that the utilization of school library as a whole was
high with grand mean score was 3,22. In addition, there was a positive and
significant correlation between the utilization of school library and student’s
achievement of XI grade students of SMP N 1 Eromoko. The result of correlation
analysis shows that the number of correlation coeficient (r) between the utilization
of school library variable (X) and student’s achievement variable (Y) was 0,98.
Because r-test was more than r-table (0,98 > 0,235), the correlation is significant.
From the result of hypothesis, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means that
there was positive and significant correlation between the utilization of school
library and student’s achievement of IX grade students of SMP N 1 Eromoko.
Knowing many advantages of school library for teaching and learning process, the
school is encouraged to increase and pay attention to school library in order that
library can be fully utilized.
