Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to investigate whether there is significant correlation between students’ understanding of sentence pattern, vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension achievement. The research has been conducted at SMA N I Pagelaran. This quantitative research has used ex post facto design. The data has been taken from the tests given to the class XI IPA 2 as the sample. The sample has been chosen randomly through lottery. There are three kinds of test: understanding of sentence pattern, vocabulary mastery, and reading comprehension test. The former consists of essay, definition matching format and multiple choice tests. The data has been analyzed by using the statistical formula of Pearson Product Moment. The result of the analyses shows that coefficient correlation between students’ understanding of sentence pattern and reading comprehension is 0.878. The coefficient correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension is 0.875. Meanwhile the coefficient correlation between students’ understanding of sentence pattern, vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension achievement is 0.933. They are higher than critical value taken from the table (r_table=0.380) where degree of freedom (df) is 28 at the significant level 0.05. They are categorized as very high correlation. It means that the null hypothesis (H_0) is rejected and H_1 is accepted. It indicates that there is positive significant correlation between students’ understanding sentence pattern, vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension achievement.
