Abstract :
Background of the problem
:
Smoking is very harmful for one?s health. The danger and
negative impact of smoking is considerably high. Some factors which may trigger
smoking habits among teenagers are age, parent
?s
rearing pattern, and given social
environme
nt.
Aim of the research
: To figure out the relation of age, rearing pattern, and social
surrounding to smoking cases among teenagers in Widoro hamlet, Bangunharjo, Sewon,
Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Research method
: This is a descriptive
-correlative research with cross sectional
approach. Sample of the research was 75 teenagers. The researcher used a total sampling
technique. The instruments of the research are questionnaire, validity and reliability test
using prod
uct moment and alfa cronbach. The data analysis employed logistic regression
test.
Result of the research
: There is relation of age, rearing pattern, and given social
environment to smoking cases with significance of 0.031; 0.003, and 0.000. Logistic
regr
ession analysis shows that parent
?
s rearing pattern and given social environment are
major factors, while age is a moderator to smoking cases among teenagers in Widoro
hamlet, Bangunharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Yogyakarta. These three elements contribute 43%
of t
he total findings and parents? rearing pa
ttern has the biggest chance (4,
618 times) to
smoking cas
es compared to chance of age (1,
649 times)
and given social environment
(0,
072 time).
Conclusion
: It is expected that parents apply appropriate rearing patter
n and create
beneficial surrounding. So, their children may avoid smoking influences. Other
researchers are expected to conduct similar research with larger and vary samples in
several areas
