Abstract :
Background: The prevalences of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia were 45-95 % among women at productive ages (Proverawati & Misaroh, 2009). Edmundson (2006) said that dysmenorrhea cause absenteeism while working and school, woman absent at least once as many as 13-51%, and repeatedly absent 5-14 %. Preliminary studies were conducted on 15 March 2014 at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta, a total of 161 students from class X acquired 105 people having problems with dysmenorrhea.
Purpose: To determine the influence of cat stretch exercise technique againts pain intensity of dysminorrhea in adolescents at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta 2014.
Methods: The study design used a quasi experimental design with two-group pretest and posttest. Total population were 161 students and the samples were 32, with 16 distribution in the intervention group and 16 in the control group.
Results: There was an influence of cat stretch exercise technique againts pain intensity of dysminorrhea in adolescents at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta 2014 in this study, with p-value 0.012 (p-value <0.05).
Teenagers are expected to apply cat stretch exercise tehnique in any menstrual cycle so that the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain can be reduced.
