ABSTRACT
This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of communicative
technique in teaching speaking in university students’ grammar at EFL class. This
research used pre-experimental research with pre-test and post-test design. It was
conducted at the second semester of Biology class at Hamzanwadi University in
the academic year 2018-2019. The samples consisted of 17 students selected by
using purposive sampeling. The data was collected using oral test. In descriptive
statistics, the data was analyzed by using paired sample t-test. The mean score of
post test (67.06) was higher than of pre-test (34.12). The result of the paired
sample t-test indicated that there was a significant difference in the mean scores
between pre-test and post-test, t (df =16) = 11.20 at p< 0.00. Based on the finding, it
can be concluded that communicative technique was significantly effective in
teaching speaking.
