Abstract :
ABSTRACT
This research aimed knowing significant effective of guessing meaning from
context in improving students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade students
of MA Darussolihin NW Kalijaga in the school year 2018-2019. This research
designed as pre experimental with one group pre test and post test design. The
population of the study was 20 and 20 as the sample in X chosen by purposive
random sampling. Reading text and multiple choices as instrument used in
collecting the data. Then the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and
paired sample t-test to test the hypothesis, it was performed by SPSS 22 for
windows. The result of descriptive statistic analysis was showed that guessing
meaning from context in improving students’ reading comprehension, It was
proven by the improvement of students’ score from 62.00 in Pre-Test, and 76.25
in Posttest. While the result of hypothesis testing by using paired sample t-test at
significance (2-tailed) value level was .000, it was lower than .05. It means that
guessing meaning from context significantly effective in improving reading
comprehension.
