ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Look and
Say in teaching reading comprehension at the ninth graders of MTs.
Miftahussa’adah NW Godak in academic year 2019-2020. This research was
designed as pre experimental by using single group pre-test and post-test design.
The population was all the ninth graders and sample of the study was 17 students.
Reading test was the instrument used in collecting data. Then the data were
analyzed by using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test to test the
hypothesis, performed by SPSS 22 for windows. The result of descriptive
statistics analysis showed that Look and Say technique was effective in teaching
reading comprehension. It proven by the improvement of students’ score from
46.82 in Pre-Test and 81.41 in Post- Test. While the result of hypothesis testing by
using paired sample t-test at significance (2-tailed) value level was .000, it was
lower than .05. It means that Look and Say technique was significantly effective
in teaching reading comprehension.
