Abstract :
This researcher aimed at knowing the students error in pronouncing English
vowel /i:/ and /I/ for the eighth graders of SMP NW Wanasaba in the school years
2017-2018. The research question were Formulated as : (1) what are the students
error in pronouncing English vowel i: and I ? (2) what are the factors of students
error in pronouncing English vowel i: and I ?. To achieve the purpose of the
research and answer the research problem, the present researcher used oral test,
interview, and questionnaire. The collected data were submitted to descriptive
analysis. Based on the result of the data analysis, the students error in pronouncing
English vowel showed that the students dominant error in pronouncing word
believe /bi’li:v / and with /wið/. These Figures showed that the students still had
difficulties in pronouncing English vowel i: and I. Therefore, to help the students
improve their pronunciation, the presents researcher suggested that they should be
given a lot of drill and practice related to the pronunciation, Thus, that they can
acquire the habit of using the correct pronunciation of English words containing
English vowels correctly.
