This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of drama in improving the
speaking skill of the eighth grade students of MTs NW Pepao in the school year
2016-2017. This research applied experimental method. The present researcher
took one class as the sample, in which were 16 of VIII C students as the
experimental class. A pre-test and post-test were given to the VIII C students. For
technique of analyzing data, the present researcher used SPSS 22 for Windows.
Based on the result of data analysis, the mean score of pre-test was 10.43 and
post-test was 14.37. It means that there were significant different in the mean
scores between pre-test and post-test. In testing hypothesis, the present researcher
found that the value of significant level was much lower than 05. It means that the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was
rejected. It is able to conclude that Drama was significantly effective in teaching
speaking skill of the eighth grade students of MTs NW Pepao in the school year
2016-2017.
