Abstract :
The aim of this study is to find out about how the teachers teach English to the
deaf learner. Also, the present researcher would like to find some challenges and
difficulties that the teacher faced and the way the teachers deal with them during
teaching. The data were collected through the open-ended questionnaire by google
form. The present researcher also tried to conduct an offline interview before the
school closed to meet the participant of the study. The participants of this study are
limited to the teachers who teach English in SLB. In this study, there are two
teachers’ prticipated. The finding shows that the used by the teachers is picture and
picture method, due to the student's needs as a visual learner. Then, the challenges
and difficulties that the teacher found are diverse, start from dealing with the students'
difficulties to understand how to read and memorize the vocabularies and dealing
with each unique character deeply to know how to handle them. Both of the
participant are having up to 4 students in the class, so there are two ways that the
teacher faces the challenges and difficulties to teach such as using more attractive
picture as the media and learning the students character deeply by seeing them not
only as a student but as their own kids who needs extra attention so that the teacher
will not only focus on academic but more to students generalities such as emotions,
social life, etc.
