Abstract :
This study aimed at exploring the kinds of signs based on theory Roland Barthes and analyzing the meaning of two important elements of signs including connotative sign and denotative sign. This study was descriptive qualitative method using a semiotic theory which advocated by Roland Barthes. The technique for coleecting the datawas used note taking and capture each scene that has relation with connotation and denotation sign that collected from the movie of Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 1. In Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory there were three kinds of signs were found in the movie including connotation, denotation and myth. The researcher chose two elements including connotation sign and denotation sign. The result of this study revealed that there were connotation and denotation sign in this movie, those were there were ten connotation signs and ten denotation signs. The present researcher suggested other writer or whoever interested in analyzing signs in a movie should be learn about the meaning of semiotic by Roland Barthes or by the other experts.
