Abstract :
This study aims to analyze EFL learners’ difficulties on the structure and written
expression section of TOEFL test. The population of this research was students of
English Language Education Program at Hamzanwadi University and the subject
was 10 students with random sampling. Data of the research was collected
through tests and interviews. The results of the study found that there were 9
items indicated as the most difficult topics encountered by EFL learners in
TOEFL test. The topics were preposition, article, subject-verb agreement, word
form, word order, verb, comparative and superlative, verbal (infinitive, gerund
and participle), and singular and plural noun. Furthermore, the findings also figure
that several factors influence EFL learners’ difficulties in the structure and written
expression section. The factors were unfamiliarity with TOEFL test, lack of
practice and preparation, and lack of grammatical competence.
