Abstract :
This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of Schemata technique to teach
speaking skill. There are two statements of problem in this researched (1) Is schemata
technique effective in teaching speaking for fifth semester of English Department in
Academic year 2020-2021? (2) How effective is Schemata technique to increase
student's speaking ability for fifth semester of English Department in Academic year
2020-2021?. This research applied pre experimental research. The population was the
fifth semester consisting of four classes and there was one class as the sample that
was VA as the experimental class. To collect the data, pre-test and post-test were
gave to students. To analyze the data, the present researcher used SPSS 25 for
windows. Based on the result of study, the mean score of pre-test was 50.00 while in
post-test was 75.18, meaning that the mean score post-test was higher than the mean
score pre-test. After submitting the data to paired sample t-test, the present researcher
found that there was significant difference in the mean score between pre-test and
post-test, sig = .000 at p = 0.05, meaning that the null hypotesis ws rejected and
alternative hypotesis was accepted. Schemta technique was significant effective in
teaching speaking skill for fifth semester of English Department in academic year
2020-2021.
