Abstract :
The purpose of this study were (a) describing the type of writing exercises
in English textbook entitled When English Ring a Bell Textbook for the Seventh
Grade Students of Junior High School Published by Kemdikbud; (b) describing
whether or not the writing exercises facilitate the students to achieve the
competency; and (c) evaluating the compatibility of the writing exercises in the
textbook When English Rings a Bell with 2013 Curriculum.This study uses
descriptive qualitative reserarch. After analysis the textbook, appropriate with
2013 curriculum, the types of writing exercises of When English Ring A Bell
Textbookthe writer found four types there are (a)completing texts; (b) writing
sentence dealing with grammar; (c) writing short functional text; and (d)
Developing vocabulary into sentence, and expecially in the first semester,
Arranging scrambled word into good sentence (not found in the textbook). Thus
the compatibility of the writing exercises in When English Ring A Bell Textbook
with syllabus 2013 curriculum, the result in the percentages offering to schema of
quality classification by Arikunto (2010) is 80%. It means the book is good in
developing writing skills. The textbook can be the material to teaching writing
process and this book was relevant to the 2013 Curriculum.
