Abstract :
The key word : Writing of Simple Present Tense Mastery, Side Scrolling
Maker (SLIM), Classroom Action Research
The aims of this research are to know the improvement of students‟
writing of simple present tense mastery by using Side Scrolling Maker (SLIM)
and to reveal how the implementation of Side Scrolling Maker (SLIM) in teaching
and learning process. The subject is the seventh grade students of SMP Al-Islam
Kartasura in academic year 2016/2017. Each grade consists of 4 classroom
starting from A class to D class. Each class consists of 30 to 35 students. The
research focused in D class with two considerations. First, they have lowest score
in English subject than the other class. Second, the class is very hard to be taught
because noisy and less attentive with their teacher.
The research design in this research was classroom action research. The
action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps
namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. There were three meetings
for each cycle. To collect the qualitative data, the researcher used observation,
interview, and field notes. To collect the quantitative data, the researcher
conducted tests before and after research implementation. The analysis of
quantitative data used mean score. These data were compared and analyzed to
obtain the conclusion as the results of the research. The researcher used Side
Scrolling Maker (SLIM) to improve students‟ writing of simple present tense
mastery.
The findings reveal that the implementation of Side Scrolling Maker
(SLIM) is successful. First, the improvement of students‟ writing of simple
present tense mastery by using Side Scrolling Maker (SLIM) was increased. It is
noticeable from the students‟ pre-test and post-test score. The mean of pre-test
was 45.65, the mean score of post-test 1 was 62.11, and the mean score of posttest
2 was 81.41. Second, the implementation of Side Scrolling Maker (SLIM) is
able to improve the students‟ writing of simple present tense mastery. It can be
seen from the field notes of teaching and learning process and interview. The
students were more active and enthusiastic in learning English. They were active
in asking difficult words to the researcher. They also paid more attention during
the explanation about simple present tense with Side Scrolling Maker (SLIM) as
the mean of delivery.
