Abstract :
This thesis discusses about the analysis of illocutionary acts realised Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie. In order to focus on the topic, the writer limited the data and only analysed utterances spoken by Harry Potter. To collect the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative and Simak Bebas Libas Cakap (SLBC) as the method. The writer used John Searle theory (1969) to identify the utterances spoken by Harry Potter portrayed in the form of illocutionary acts. The data were taken from the script of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie. The writer used five steps to analyse the data. Firstly, the writer had to download the script from the website. Secondly, the writer matched the script from the website with script in the movie. Thirdly, the writer listed the utterances spoken by Harry Potter. Fourthly, the writer classified the utterances spoken by Harry Potter into five types of illocutionary acts based on the criteria developed by John Searle (Assertive, Directive, Commissive, Expressive, Declarative). The last was the writer drew the conclusion. For result of illocutionary act realised in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban script movie, it could be concluded that there were 236 utterances spoken by Harry Potter. The first dominant type was directive which contain 98 utterances, the second dominant type was assertive which contain of 93 utterances, the third dominant type was expressive which contain of 32 utterances, and the last dominant type was commissive which contain of 13 utterances.
