Abstract :
Marine current power plant is one of the alternative non-fuel power plants
that have enormous potential. But at present the attention to marine current
power plant power plants is very small. Therefore, research is needed on the
power plant of ocean currents to analyze the efficiency and potential of electrical
energy produced. In this thesis, a prototype of a marine current power plant is
made using savonius turbine. The advantage of this turbine is that it can capture
the incoming and returning currents optimally. The initial stage of this design is
by collecting data on ocean current velocity in the strait of Bengkalis Regency,
making a prototype generator in accordance with the design that has been made,
and testing the prototype of a marine current power plant.Based on the results of
the marine current power plant prototype analysis using savonius turbines, the
power value of P = 13.64 watts at an average current speed of 0.5 m/s.
