Abstract :
Many circulating in the market of kinds of piston ring product ranging from original
products (genunie parts) are expensive, until the product is not original relatively cheaper,
this study aims to determine and compare the mechanical properties of original yamaha ring
piston material made in japanese new quality high with non original icon piston ring ichidai
that the price is relatively cheap before treatment heat treatment and after experiencing heat
treatment process .. the method used is to provide heat treatment with a temperature below
thw melting point of 400 degrees celcius and then wasing with water cooling medium, oil and
air.the result of this study are chemical content that exhibits violent properties such as
manganese (Mn) element in piston ring genuine parts and element (Cr) cromium in ichidai
piston ring. The microstructure of each sample is not very different because each has a ferrite
and austentite phases that indicate steel that denotes hardness for austentite and ferrite
which tend to be soft the highest hardness value of original piston genuine part ring is on
water cooling medium that is 79,92 HRC and lowest hardness value is in piston ring which is
not given heat treatment. While on the piston ring ichidai brand the highest hardness value
is on the water cooling medium that is 70,54 HRC, and the lowest is on the air conditioning
medium that is 65,6 HRC.
