Abstract :
In an effort to convert the aircraft to VTOL, changes fuselage dimensions would be
important. In making this change, it is important to consider a aerodynamics of
aircraft. So it is necessary to do aerodynamic analysis to determine effect of changing
a dimensions fuselage on aerodynamic performance. Fuselage modeling process uses
CAD software, and aerodynamic analysis process uses ANSYS-CFX software.
Simulation process, the assumption is that the flow is steady-state and air properties
are assumed to be fixed or unchanged. Simulation is carried out when cruising with an
air flow speed of 20 m/s. Results obtained from this study show that a dimensions
fuselage for an aircraft equivalent to Skywalker X8 VTOL have changed in several
parts, namely addition width fuselage from 380 mm to 410 mm and shape fuselage by
enlarging the basins on the upper and lower fuselage. For length and height, fuselage
uses the same dimensions. The aerodynamic characteristics aircraft fuselage
equivalent to Skywalker X8 and fuselage equivalent to Skywalker X8 VTOL on ANSYS
CFX show value fuselage lift equivalent to Skywalker X8 is greater than the value of
the fuselage equivalent to Skywalker X8 VTOL with respective values of 1.9192 N and
1. 2383 N, then drag value aircraft equivalent to the Skywalker X8 VTOL is greater
than drag value aircraft equivalent to Skywalker X8 with a value of 1.4707 N and
1.8961 N respectively, then L/D fuselage value aircraft equivalent to the Skywalker X8
is obtained is greater than value L/D aircraft fuselage equivalent Skywalker X8 VTOL
with a value of 1.3050 and 0.6531 respectively, so it can be concluded that there is a
decrease in aerodynamic efficiency performance of 49.95%.
