Abstract :
One application of weldingoxy-acetylene that can be done on tanks, one of which is a tank made of metal with a thickness of 1 to 2 mm. Tanks with this thickness are usually used as containers for storing stockpiling fluids, namely water and oil. the thing that causes frequent damage to this tank is bad weather conditions or a harsh working environment. Welding is one way to overcome the damage. This study used the OAW welding method Oxygen Acetylene Welding by using variations of seam joints namely HV seam, seam I and seam V on steel plate ST 37 with a thickness of 1.5 mm for application to tanks. Before carrying out the welding process, there are many considerations that must be taken into account, one of which is the type of connection chosen because the type of connection greatly affects the results of the welding which will be carried out with several mechanical tests. The results of this study indicate that the highest average value of tensile strength is in seam V with an average welded joint strength of 51.25 kgf/mm2 . While the lowest tensile stress is in seam I of 49.85 kgf/ mm2 . Meanwhile, from the microstructure test it can be seen that in the HAZ area of each hamlet the microstructure in the HAZ area shows that this area is dominated by ferrite.weld metal, and the results of the microstructure test of the weld area at seam V showed a dense microstructure arrangement, in this arrangement identical to pearlite dark color so as to make the specimen harder.
