Abstract :
The need for electrical energy currently covers various activities of human life in the
industrial sector, electronic devices, and electric transportation. The use of conventional fuels
such as coal is still the main fuel to run steam turbines as electric power plants. Water flow
micro hydro power plant can be utilized as a long-term small-scale hydro power plant. The
working system of the Archimedes screw turbine utilizes the descending flow velocity to
generate power with the low head that does not have a special control system.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of variations in shaft tilt angle on
the mechanical performance of screw turbines and identify the position of the shaft tilt angle
that has the greatest efficiency. The research was conducted on a screw turbine model with a
diameter of 15 cm, 10 pieces of blades, 10 cm pitch distance, and thread length of 100 cm with
variations in tilt angles of 20?, 30?, and 40? with a water discharge of 4.4 l / s. The conclusion
that can be obtained from this research is the highest mechanical power value was generated
by the Archimedes screw turbine at the loading of 1.5 kg in 12.243 watts with the efficiency of
47.41% at the angle of inclination of 30?.
