Abstract :
Automotive industry field keeps developing. One of the developments is the swing arm bracket component. Electroplating copper is used as a coating material to increase the resistance and corrosion of these components. Copper is widely used as a coating metal because it is soft, ductile, heat-conducting, and good conductor properties. Due to its electro-positive nature, copper is easily deposited by metals which have higher electrical density. The method used is experimental with the Brinell Hardness Test. This study aimed to identify the effects of cathode-anode distance and the length of electroplating coating time on the hardness and corrosion values. The results depicted that there was an effect on the hardness value and corrosion rate although not significant. The highest hardness value was found at the cathode-anode distance of20 mm and 30-minute coating time as 88.22 BHN. The highest corrosion rate values were found in each cathode-anode distance (20 mm - 30 minutes time), distance (30 mm - 20 minutes time), and distance (40 mm - 20-30 minutes) of 0.0054 mm/y. In conclusion, the distance of the cathode-anode and the length of time of the coating affected the hardness value and corrosion rate.
