Abstract :
Modernization of technology motivates researchers to try to find substitutes from synthetic fibers to more natural fibers. Natural fibers include fibers produced by plants, animals and geological processes. Utilization of these natural fibers one of which is used for automotive equipment such as for example helmets. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of variations in the volume fraction of sengon sawdust and coco fiber on the impact of a composite. The volume fraction of the particles added in this study were 25%:15%, 20%:20% and 15%:25% sawdust of sengon wood-coconut fiber. The materials used to make the composite are sengon wood sawdust particles and coconut coir fiber mixed with epoxy resin as a matrix. In the manufacturing process, the hand lay-up method is used. From the results of the impact strength test, the highest impact strength value was obtained at a volume fraction of 15%:25% sawdust of sengon-coconut fiber, which was 0.1052 J/mm2 , while the lowest impact strength value was found at a variation of 25%: 15% sawdust of sengon wood-coconut fiber, namely 0.0915 J/mm2 . Whereas in the SEM test of the composite fracturing of sengon sawdust and epoxy-marinated coco fiber composite failures occurred, namely fiber pull out, matrix cracking, debonding and voids.
