Abstract :
The layout is one of the operational strategic decisions that also determines
the efficiency of the company's operations in the long term. A good layout will
contribute to increasing company productivity. The purpose of this research is to
understand the stages of the production process and then to identify the constraints
related to the layout at IKM Yessi and submit a proposed layout that is by the use
of the Activity Relationship Chart, to determine the degree of closeness relationship
between work stations. Then propose adding material handling to facilitate product
transfer. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the proposed layout has
advantages, namely the flow of the production process in accordance with the
stages of the production process, workers have a wider workspace, such as a sand
mold that has less space and more organized road access. The time comparison
between the initial layout which has a total time of 132 seconds or 2 minutes 12
seconds, and the new layout which has a total time of 127 seconds or 2 minutes 7
seconds, has a faster time difference of 5 seconds in the new layout. In addition to
the proposed layout, there are also suggestions for additional material handling
which are expected to make it easier for employees according to their working
needs. With the analysis of the total transfer time, the result is a difference in time
of 5 minutes 41 seconds, it is faster using material handling.
