Abstract :
The fuel system is an important system found in airplanes that functions as
the main system in distributing fuel to the engine. So if a fuel system component
fails it will have a negative impact on engine performance, which allows the
aircraft to experience an accident and can claim lives.
One of the parameters that affect the performance of the engine on the
helicopter is the fuel system. The importance of the role of the fuel system in the
engine so that the engine is able to work optimally. If it fails, the supply will
decrease and the fuel flow will not run smoothly, this can result in an unstable
fuel supply that goes into the combustion chamber, if the fuel supply that goes into
the combustion chamber is not fulfilled, the engine performance will not be
optimal and has the potential to endanger flight safety. Failure analysis that
appears on unstable engine power is based on observation and troubleshooting
based on manual references, besides using the observation method, this study also
uses the fault tree analysis method to find other causes of unstable engine power
problems.
The cause of unstable engine power is the reduced amount of pressurized
fuel supply caused by a clogged fuel filter component and two clogged fuel nozzle
sprayers. So that the fuel filter component needs to be replaced and the fuel nozzle
sprayer needs to be cleaned in the clogged area. The cause of unstable engine
power based on the results of the fault tree analysis found 12 basic events, namely
fuel low quantity, fuel contaminated, switch problem, shutoff valve not working,
check valve leakage, fuel filter problem, clogged fuel nozzle sprayyer, clogged
transfer tubes, broken strainer , FCU problem, boost pump problem, EDP
problem.
