Abstract :
A helicopter is an airplane that is powered by two engine and its lift is
generated by the rotation of the propellers, the thing that is very striking about
helicopters and at the same time being a differentiator from other airplanes is that
helicopters can fly vertically. This makes the helicopter very prone to damage, so
to keep the helicopter safe and airworthy, routine maintenance must be carried out.
This study used the fault tree analysis method because the damage involved
involved several crucial components on the BK 117 helicopter. Therefore,
troubleshooting was carried out to solve the problem. This study uses a
troubleshooting method that refers to Repair Manual 106. The troubleshooting
process is carried out by replacing the needle bearing, shaft seal, and tension
torsion strap parts.
The result of solving the problem is that the damage occurs to the tension
torsion strap due to a leaky shaft seal and the impact on the lubrication of the needle
bearing is not optimal, causing scratches and eventually causing leaks, so it must
be replaced. After the replacement, an operational test was carried out until the
condition of the helicopter was declared serviceable.
