Abstract :
The increasing use of vehicles makes the effectiveness of human activities,
but on the other hand, the space for vehicles becomes denser, which will also
increase the risk of collisions between vehicles and other objects. These collisions
can occur anywhere, including in narrow parking lots. Therefore, a system is
needed to facilitate the control of vehicles, especially cars, to minimize collisions
between vehicles and collisions with objects around the car.
Ultrasonic sensor makes it possible to create a prototype distance
measuring system, the sensor is able to generate and reflect sound waves from
surrounding objects so as to interpret the distance of an object. The distance
measuring system can be implemented in a car and can be integrated in the reverse
transmission of a car. The ultrasonic sensor in this prototype uses three HC-SR04
modules on the left, right, and rear sides that can generate ultrasonic waves while
receiving reflected waves from objects, the information is processed through a
series of logic with Arduino Mega 2560 R3. The closest distance information from
all sensors is converted to the LCD display as well as indicators in the form of
RGB LED, LED Bar Graph, and Buzzer.
The implementation of this distance measuring prototype is able to detect
objects on the left, right, and rear sides with 1.85% error-rate that obtained from
the average calculation results in the Single Sensor Test and Multi Sensor Test tests.
The prototype provides a warning system through several indicators that work
gradually along with changes in object distance. The prototype implementation is
very possible to be applied to the actual car system with low power consumption
which is only at 1 Watt.
