Abstract :
Composites are widely developed to replace metals because they are light,
strong, corrosion resistant, and available in large quantities. Natural fiber
composites as reinforcement are used because they are environmentally friendly
and easy to find
This study aims to determine the tensile strength and morphology of
HDPE composites with pineapple leaf fiber as reinforcement The composite
material consists of pineapple leaf fibers as reinforcement and HDPE plastic as
matrix. The manufacturing process for composite specimens is molded and heated
to a temperature of 250 ° C.
The tensile test results obtained the lowest tensile strength value at the
volume fraction of 60% with an average of 15.14 MPa and the highest tensile
strength value at the volume fraction of 40 % with an average of 18.25% MPa.
SEM test results show that composites with a balanced composition between
matrix and fiber will produce high tensile strength.
