Abstract :
In the aircraft configuration, the wing is an important component because it is
supported by almost all of the existing load so that the wing is the main determinant
of aircraft performance. Aspect ratio, taper ratio, twist angle, dihedral angle, and
swept angle are some of the important parameters on the wing that can affect the
aerodynamic performance of an aircraft. In this study, the effect of the taper ratio
parameter was studied on the aerodynamic characteristics of the CESSNA 172-S
Skyhawk aircraft wing.
The value of CL wing taper ratio which has the highest efficiency was
0.220619 with a CD wing taper ratio of 0.016831. This value was obtained from the
iteration results on the ANSYS CFD on the wing ?=0.5.
From these results it can be concluded that, with the addition of variations in
the taper ratio on the wing of the Cessna 172-S Skyhawk aircraft, it can reduce the CL
value and also reduce the CD value. For the stability of the wings in the longitudinal
dimension based on the test results, the position of the wings when cruising tended to
nose up because the resulting pitch moment coefficient was positive at 0.065822 on
rectangular wings and the more taper the wing shape, the greater the pitch moment
coefficient generated.
