Abstract :
This research was conducted to determine the effect of variations in the
volume fraction of rice husk charcoal grains on the composite impact price. This
study used a sieve size of 100 mesh. The material used is rice husk charcoal
particles with a matrix of polyester resin. The method used in the manufacturing
process is hand lay-up.
The test shows that the best impact value is on rice husk charcoal
particles with a volume fraction variation of 2% with an average value of 0.128
J/mm2. The higher the volume fraction of rice husk charcoal, the higher the
impact price. This is possible because of the intercalation structure. The
intercalation structure is formed when the nanometer-sized silicate layer is
inserted by one or more polyester matrix molecules. Dispersed particles have a
positive effect on the propagation of stress, the spreading structure of the
particles is an obstacle that causes crack propagation to become tortuous and
irregular, this event is known as crack deflection, the more particles dispersed in
the matrix, the higher the impact strength.
