Abstract :
The need for energy in the world continues to increase, this happens due to
population growth, economic growth and the pattern of energy consumption itself
which is constantly increasing. Meanwhile, the high demand for oil and gas is not
matched by its production capacity, causing shortages so that in almost all
countries, they are racing to generate energy from new and renewable energy
sources. One of them is wind energy.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in blade
width on the electric power of the mini Savonius windmill. This research was
conducted by modifying the Savonius U rotor with three variations of blade width
of 6 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm. Then it is observed how much wind speed, voltage and current
strength of the generator, and the rotation of the resulting windmill is then analyzed
further to obtain wind power, generator power and efficiency of the windmill.
The results showed that the windmill with a blade width variation of 6 cm
has the results of the rotation of the wheel, generator power and power efficiency
that are more optimal than the variations in the blade width of 7 cm and 8 cm.
