Abstract :
The use and utilization of composite materials is now growing. Composite
material is known as a combination of binder (matrix) and reinforcing material
(fiber), which produces a new material with different properties from the original
goat hair material, because from an economical point of view, it is cheaper and
easier to obtain. Natural and animal fiber composites have strong mechanical
properties, are corrosion resistant so that they can be used as substitutes for
metalmaterials. The main materials used are Javanese goat hair fiber and 108
polyestermatrix and use the hand lay-up method with a random arrangement of
fibers. Using variations of goat hair fiber 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% with an
immersion time of 60 minutes using 5% NaOH. The bending test specimen refers
to ASTM D 790-03 and the SEM test to determine the morphological structure of
the fracture surface of the specimen after Impact testing.
From the test results of goat hair fiber composite specimens, an Impact
strength analysis was carried out from a volume fraction ratio of 15%, 20%,
25%,and 30%. From the results of Impact testing of goat hair fiber composites,
the highest strength was found in the 30% fiber volume fraction, which was 0.066
Mpa and the lowest bending strength at 15% fiber volume fraction, 0.058 Mpa.
Based onthe results of the SEM test at a 30% fiber variation, it can be seen that
there is fiberbreaking, which makes the density level higher and makes the resin
bond with the particles better, it can be concluded that the more goat hair fiber
the higher the impact price.
