Abstract :
Micro Hydro Power Plant is a technology to utilize the head and water discharge to be
converted into electrical energy. Indonesia has a lot of potential for water energy with low or
very low heads that exist in rivers and irrigation. This energy source can be used to drive a
water turbine which then generates electrical energy.
This study aimed to analyze the effect of variations in the tilt angle of the shaft on the
mechanical performance of the Archimedes single screw turbine. The method used is an
experimental method by using different variations in the tilt angle of the Archimedes screw
turbine shaft. At the time of testing the turbine, to get the best angle of inclination, the angle
position of inclination to the axis of the turbine was changed.
The variations in the angle of inclination used were 25°, 30°, and 35° with the loads as 2
kg, 4 kg, 6 kg, 8 kg, and 10 kg. The test results indicated the optimum tilt angle was at 35° and
the rotational speed of the shaft without loading of 353.1 rpm. After being given a load, the
optimal torque was 7.3575 N, the mechanical power was 123.32 Watt and the efficiency was
66.36.
