Abstract :
A composite is a material formed from a combination of two or more materials. One of its
advantages is light but strong. GLARE is one of the strongest composites. GLARE is a
combination of several materials including aluminium, glass fiber and epoxy resin. This
composite has many advantages namely an incredible strength-to-weight ratio, strong to
fatigue, corrosion resistant, fire resistant and impact resistant. GLARE is currently used on
the skins of Airbus A-380 aircraft.
The research method is carried out by how the manufacturing GLARE on several materials.
The materials needed are aluminium, glass fiber and epoxy resin. In glass fiber varied the
direction of location at the time of the manufacturing process in order to know which glass
fiber direction is better. Furthermore, GLARE manufacturing results are tested with tensile
testing to know the tensile strength of the composites.
After testing, the specimen data will be calculated to look for the values of Ultimate Tensile
Strength and Elastic Modulus and the better result of the calculation between the two
directions of the glass fiber is a specimen that uses the direction of the glas fiber with a slope
of 45°. Then it has determined the direction of the glass fiber is better.
