Abstract :
Indonesian Sign Language or what is known as Bisindo is used by other deaf people
and normal people can also be called hearing friends to communicate with each
other. Learning sign language is usually done directly, face to face, and there is not
yet an adequate application for the process of learning sign language. So, this
hearing friend app has been developed to help learn Indonesian Sign Language for
hearing deaf friends and friends, and can save time and quota because this app can
work offline. By creating this sign language learning medium using Java
programming and using SQLite database. Based on the black box testing it shows
that the app works according to the initial design that was made. Based on the test
obtained using the Linkert scale, the hearing companion app has a functional test
score of 91.4%, which corresponds to the deaf friends test of 15 respondents and
88.57% hearing friends test results from 30 respondents. This application can work
on smartphones with Android operating system version 6.0 Marshmallow, 7.0
Nougat, 8.0 Oreo, 9.0 Pie and 10. Shows that the app is working properly and can
be used easily. Based on the test results, it is concluded that the hearing companion
app can be used as a learning aid for Indonesian Sign Language.
