Abstract :
The pitot tube system is one of the existing systems on the Boeing 737-800
aircraft, which functions as the entry point for dynamic air flow which will then be
channeled to the Airspeed indicator. Airspeed indicator functions as a means of
indicating the air speed while the aircraft is in the air. The pitot tube has a heater
that functions as a heater that prevents ice from forming in the pitot tube which can
cause blockages of the pitot tube during flight. This heater is controlled via the P5-
9 window / heat panel, the P5-9 window / heat panel will indicate the heater is not
functioning by turning on the indication light on the panel.
To overcome a malfunctioning heater on the pitot tube, troubleshooting the
pitot tube was carried out. The implementation includes checking the pitot tube,
circuit breaker, and wiring diagram to find out which part is damaged.
After the troubleshooting was carried out, the results were that there was a
problem with the pitot heater which was caused by a short circuit which caused the
heater to not function. Due to efficiency, the replacement of 1 assy pitot tube was
carried out with the Aircraft maintenance manual reference. After replacing the
pitot tube, the indication light on the window / heat panel p5-9 shows a normal state
with all the lights off and the pitot tube operating properly.
