Abstract :
In its application, APU is used when the main engine is off. Normally the APU
is turned on when the aircraft is prepared to fly by technicians or by the flight. The
APU will be turned off when the main engine of the aircraft is on. APU will be
restarted after the aircraft lands and before the engine is turned off so that electricity
and AC packs on the aircraft can still be used. The purpose is to identify the analysis
of the failures that occurred to the APU on Boeing 737-800 NG using a fault tree
analysis method.
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is a technique used to identify risks that contribute to
failure. This method was carried out with a Top Down approach, which began with
the assumption of failure or loss from a peak event (Top Event) then details the
causes of a top event to a failure. After making a fault tree diagram, then an
evaluation was done with MCS.
The cause of the failure of the APU System on Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft
from aircraft maintenance analysis since 2 January 2018 until 13 September 2019
there were 100 incidents. From the HIL data, the component that most dominated the
APU failure on the Boeing 737-800 NG was the starter generator. Based on the
results of the analysis using the FTA method with the assumption that unscheduled
APU system maintenance as a top event is obtained, 14 intermediate events using the
logic gate ""OR"" and ""AND"" logical gate and 47 basic events that cause a failure on
the APU system aircraft Boeing 737-800 NG.
