Abstract :
Indonesia has renewable energy sources that have not been used optimally
such as wind, water, solar and other energy. Wind speeds in Indonesia are generally
5.9 m/s. The low wind speed can be used to spin savonius type windmills. During its
development, savonius wheel experienced many changes in the shape of the rotor,
such as the design of the L-shaped rotor. In the L type savonius wheel the output
produced was power generator.
The windmills used in the study were L type savonius windmills with a
diameter and height of 60 cm with the number of blades 3, 4, and 5. The tests were
carried out on the beach 30 times of data collections with the instruments used were
anemometer, multimeter and tacometer . Then it continued to take the average value
of wind speed, voltage, current, and output power.
From the results of testing the number of blades on L type Savonius
windmills, the lowest wheel rotation obtained on the wheel with blade number 3 was
277.07 rpm and the highest rotation on the number of blade 5 was 360.73. The lowest
output value on blade number 3 was 1.7 watts and the highest output value on blade
number 5 was 2.2 watts. The highest efficiency value on blade number 4 was 39.73%
and the highest efficiency value on blade number 5 was 48.35%.
