Abstract :
EGT is one of the important indicators in the operation of aircraft engines. If the
EGT has increased in temperature beyond the specified limit, it can cause damage or
overheat to the engine. The measurement of EGT is done by placing the temperature
sensor on the turbine outlet temperature called thermocouple. There is a problem that
occurs in the EGT indication system that is the EGT indicator pointer needle is not
functioning. This problem is caused by the failure of a component in the DC-9 aircraft
EGT indication system.
This failure can be corrected by identifying, troubleshooting, and testing and
checking the overall system of EGT indications. The initial step to troubleshoot the
EGT indication system is to identify failures and find out the possible causes that occur,
namely the thermocouple leads and the EGT indicators are damaged. To correct this,
test the resistance of the thermocouple leads on the back of the EGT indicator. The
results of resistance obtained by the authors are the absence of a multimeter
designation. The next possible cause is the open balancing resistor. To correct this, test
the continuity of the balancing resistor terminal. Then make a replacement on the
balancing resistor and calibrate the component.
After performing the troubleshoot steps above, an EGT indication system failure
location on the McDonnel Douglas DC-9 can be generated and the resistance and
continuity balancing resistor are not connected. To correct this, we do a replacement
balancing resistor then calibrate the component.
