Abstract :
Marker beacon is one of the navigation systems that used in ATR 72-600
aircraft that included in the instrument landing system. Marker beacon warn pilots
that the aircraft has entered a certain distance to the threshold or the end of the
runway at an airport. Marker beacon provide an audio and visual indication to pilots
during the landing proccess. Receiver is needed to processing data from marker
beacon antenna. Damage to the receiver causes data processing to fail so the
aircraft's distance warning to the runway threshold does not appear. That fault
causes the pilot fail to land the plane properly and safely.
Fault of the marker beacon can be identified by identifying and testing the
component. The error occurred in the form of loss of marker caused by trouble in
the marker beacon receiver so that there is no indication on the instrument in the
cockpit. The troubleshooting process is done by replacing it with a serviceable
receiver that has the same part number. After replacing the receiver, the test is
carried out again to make sure the marker beacon and its components have returned
to serviceable conditions.
After troubleshooting and retesting, the indication of the marker beacon is
in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and no faults have appeared
again. This shows that the marker beacon and its components have returned to
serviceable conditions and can be used again.
