Abstract :
This study focused on the effect of temperature on the fatigue resistance of
Al 7075 - T6 material used as Wheel rims material. The heat on the wheel rim
comes from the friction on the wheel brake which causes heat which is then
converted into wheel rim. This experimental study is expected to determine the
effect of heat due to braking on fatigue resistance Al 7075-T6 as wheel rim
material.
The study was conducted using a Rotary Bending test apparatus plus a
heating device mounted on the test equipment. The test boundary temperature is
assumed to be equal to the permitted threshold in the 300 ° C wheel brake. The
load on the test apparatus is set at 70% of the UTS in each temperature variation
to obtain a temperature graph of the tired strength of the wheel rims material with
reference to the fatigue resistance test of Al 7075 - T6 before.
The test results showed that the material of Al 7075 - T6 with increasing
heat temperature tired strength will decrease. It was seen that at 180 N load with
16.400 cycles obtained at room temperature (20 ° C - 25 ° C), and at 300 ° C with
a cyclical voltage range in the 800 range. In this test there was also a Ductile
transition to Brittle on aluminum, this is seen on the surface of the fault which
denotes two types of fractures namely ductile and brittle
