Abstract :
Sandwich composites are a type of composite that has a high enough strength when
used as a secondary or primary structure. This study aims to investigate the effect of skin and
core thickness on the bending strength of sandwich composite materials.
The materials of this research are fiberglass and lycal resin with balsa wood, the
method used in making composites is the hand lay-up method. Specimens are made from
6mm 8mm and 10mm core thickness and use ASTM C-393 standard.
The results of this study indicate the value of the strength of the sandwich composite
bending test, fiberglass material with variations in core thickness of 6mm 8mm and 10mm,
the strongest of each specimen is specimen C or 10mm thickness in test number 10 with a
Maxload value of 55.102 kgf, Area284.480 Elastic modulus of 5,981 with a strength of 3232.
