Abstract :
Friction stir welding is an advancement in the field of friction welding.
Friction stir welding has the opportunity to become a successful welding process
used in the future. One of its uses is as
replacement for the rivet method on plate-shaped materials. In the world of aviation
This method can be used to connect aircraft fuselage skin materials
fly. This welding does not use filler materials or the process
some welding defects such as cracks and porosity can be reduced.
The research method was carried out using the friction stir welding process
using feed rate variations of 33 mm/minute, 25 mm/minute, 16.5 mm/minute, and
12.5 mm/minute with plate-shaped specimens. Next is the material connection
aluminum resulting from the friction stir welding process is tested using testing
hardness and tensile testing are then compared with materials that do not
undergoes a friction stir welding process.
The analysis results show that the specimen underwent a friction stir process
welding has Vickers Hardness (HV) and Ultimate Tensile Strength values
(UTS) which relatively decreases by around 50% from raw material. This is in
caused by external or internal defects in the connection.
Meanwhile, the trend in HV values ??is high at high feed rates and decreases at
low feed rate. However, the trend in UTS scores shows the opposite, namely value
UTS increases from high feedrate to low feedrate.
