Abstract :
Riveting on aircraft material required drilling. Some errors occur during the
drilling, the technician may be able to make a mistake resulting in the diameter of
the hole does not same to the diameter rivet. This is probably due to the drilling for
riveting not only once done, so that technicians have a fatigue, then the position of
drilling is not perpendicular. As a result of the incidence the diameter of the hole
may increase. This research is focused to analyze the strength of result of single
joint joint with riveting which varied its diameter hole.
The joint type on the material is a single riveted lap joint. The riveting is done
by personnel who have certificate of expertise in the field of riveting. Then the
results of riveting done tensile testing and macro photo testing. The specimens used
in this study were Aluminum 2024-T3 and for rivet using countersunk rivet.
The test results on the 3.4 mm diameter hole variation has the highest shear
strength values compared to the 3.2 mm and 3.5 mm diameter hole variations.
Shear strength value of diameter hole variation 3.4 mm is 253.752 N / mm2 and has
a damage length of 0.01 mm. It can be interpreted the maximum oversize during
drilling is at 3.4
